The Role of Aviation in Sustainable Urbanisation


In 2007 it was the first time in human history that more people lived in towns and cities than did in rural areas. This trend is only set to continue and accelerate so that by 2050 two thirds of the population will live in an urban area.

In this article, on Triple Pundit, John Mandyck (Chief Sustainability Officer for UTC) looks at the impact commercial aviation will have on the growth of sustainable urban environments around the world. The world’s commercial fleet is expected to nearly double by 2030 to 46,000 aircraft and will support 103 million jobs, generating $5.8 billion in economic activity each year.
